Message delivered by H.E. President of the Islamic Republic of Iran on the International Day of Solidarity with the People of Palestine

November 29 has been designated by the United Nations as the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People. On this occasion His Excellency Dr. Pezeshkian President of the Islamic Republic of Iran has issued the following message.

In the Name of God, the Compassionate, the Merciful

November 29th marks the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People, a day dedicated to global support for their courage, resilience, and unwavering pursuit of freedom and justice. For over seven decades, they have faced some of the most ruthless forces in history, standing steadfast despite overwhelming odds. These forces, unabashed in their actions, have targeted the lives of young children, attacked defenseless civilians, demolished homes, and assassinated some of the most courageous individuals. Shockingly, they remain indifferent to the global outcry and the disbelieving, concerned gaze of people worldwide, showing neither remorse nor shame.

The United Nations’ decision to designate a day of solidarity with the Palestinian people is a meaningful gesture but falls far short of what is needed. Last year, the death toll among Palestinians stood at 14,000. Today, that number has tragically surged to 53,000 dead and missing, with over 100,000 injured—more than 60% of them women, children, and the elderly. For over a year, the world has looked to the United Nations for decisive action: to address the genocide of the Palestinian people, to extinguish the flames of a war that now threatens neighboring countries, and to bring the jailer of the world’s largest open prison to justice. Yet, during this time, all those who cherish freedom and possess a conscience have witnessed the UN’s inaction and the impunity enjoyed by perpetrators of these atrocities—individuals who masquerade as statesmen while using global platforms like the UN to lecture others.

The current situation in Palestine and the broader region impacted by the Israeli regime's aggression underscores an urgent truth: the most effective and immediate way to show solidarity with the Palestinian people is to curtail the Zionist regime and sever the international support enabling this malignant force. The Zionist regime has flagrantly disregarded international norms and values, openly violating the United Nations Charter—a covenant to which all member states have pledged their adherence.

History will bear witness to the atrocities committed: the mass killing of civilians, attacks on hospitals, the deliberate cutting off of water, food, fuel, and medicine to Gaza, the forced displacement of thousands, the targeting of journalists and humanitarian workers, and the assassination of heroic figures like Martyr Hassan Nasrallah, Martyr Ismail Haniyeh, and Martyr Yahya Sinwar. These crimes have been carried out with the complicity of Western governments that proclaim themselves champions of human rights, most notably the United States. Time and again, when efforts have been made to end the war and halt the slaughter of children, the hand of the U.S. representative in the UN Security Council has risen to block those efforts, shielding these heinous acts from accountability.

The Islamic Republic of Iran commemorates the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People while also sounding a clear warning about the inaction of the United Nations in the face of the ongoing atrocities against Palestinians. The injustices inflicted upon the Palestinian people demand urgent global attention and action; silence in the face of these crimes risks normalizing evil and cruelty, with dire consequences for the future of humanity. If the United Nations—especially its Security Council—fails to address the crimes committed by the occupiers of Palestinian land, it will gravely undermine the credibility and moral authority of the organization.

Today, we reaffirm our unwavering commitment to supporting the cause of a free and independent Palestine and stand resolutely with the Palestinian people in their just struggle. The Islamic Republic of Iran remains ready to cooperate with all nations that uphold the principles of freedom, equality, justice, and human rights. We view the defense of the Palestinian people not only as a moral duty but as a shared demand of freedom-loving individuals around the globe.

The Islamic Republic of Iran continues to advocate for the only just and lasting solution to the Palestinian issue: the return of refugees and the holding of a democratic referendum among the original inhabitants of Palestine—Muslims, Christians, and Jews—based on the principles of democracy and international law.

In this painful and unequal struggle, we are certain that the final victory belongs to the steadfast and determined Palestinian people, whose resolve has remained unshaken despite the might of the world's largest military arsenals.

God's peace, mercy and blessings be upon you.
