Pirouz Hanachi was elected as co-president of the Metropolis Organization in The Metropolis 13th World Congress, held on 30 November 2020, which was organized in a two-fold Congress, during which all active members elected a new Board of Directors for the coming 2021-2023. Pirouz Hanachi stated in his Tweeter, "I'm grateful of Octavia de la Varga and all the Board Members who trusted me as the co-president of Metropolis." He continued by congratulating Wen Guohui and Claudia Lopez, Mayors of Guangzhou and Bogota, as the new presidents of Metropolis. He added, "With solidarity we can overcome the world's crises".The mayor of Tehran was also elected chairman of the Urban Reconstruction and Architecture working group for the next three years .It was the first time for the local leaders of member cities and regions in the Assembly's thirty-five year history to not gather in person, due to the coronavirus pandemic
