Embassy Statement on the martyrdom of President Ebrahim Raisi and Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian

The Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Copenhagen regrets to announce with deep sorrow and sadness the untimely martyrdom of President Ebrahim Raisi and Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian in an air crash on Sunday 19 May 2024.

The Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Copenhagen, regrets to announce, with deep sorrow and sadness, the untimely martyrdom of President Ebrahim Raisi and Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian in an air crash on Sunday 19 May, 2024.

The helicopter carrying the President and his entourage, en route to Tabriz to inaugurate an industrial project, crashed in a mountainous region in East Azerbaijan Province due to bad weather conditions, killing all on board. 

Ayatollah Dr. Raisi and Dr. Amirabdollahian, leave a legacy of great achievements as president and Foreign Minister, including their key role in strengthening Iran’s foreign relations, particularly, with our neighbouring states, and Iran’s membership of intergovernmental organizations such as the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) and BRICS.

The Ambassador and the Embassy personnel, along with the Iranian nation, mourn the martyrdom of the President, the Foreign Minister and others who lost their lives in this tragic accident.
